San Diego Padres beat Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 in 10th innings at Petco Park – MLB news
San Diego Padres recorded an unlikely win as they beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 in a comeback from behind effort on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Petco Park.
The Padres were quite for most of the game and it was only the ninth innings when their bats were able to produce runs. The game was decided in the 10th innings.
The scoring started in the top of the second inning with an RBI single by Carlos Ruiz. Jimmy Rollins drove in another run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly. Chase Utley homered in the top of the eighth innings to make it 3-0 to the good for the Phillies.
It should have been a regulation win for the Phillies with a solid three run lead when they entered the bottom of the ninth. However, it all changed in a jiffy as the Padres were able to score three runs to tie it in the innings.
With two bases loaded, Kyle Mills scored a two-run RBI single to the centre field to get the Padres on board and within one run of the Phillies. A passed ball by Carlos Ruiz allowed Kyle Blanks to reach home plate, tying the match.
Some indifferent pitching by pitcher Justin De Fratus allowed the bases to be loaded with one batter down. Chris Denorfia and Chase Headley were walked while Carlos Quentin was hit by pitch. Kyle Blanks was able to get an RBI single to get Chris Denorfia
to home plate, getting the home team an unlikely win.
It was a great win for the Padres which saw Kyle Blanks hit four in the game and got three RBI’s. He also scored a run in the game.
Kyle is pretty happy about the performance which has been eluding him for a while.
“I kind of had that in the back of my mind,” Blanks said. “It's been kind of that elusive game for me.”
It is indeed a great win for the San Diego ballclub which kept them over the .500 mark in the season. They are currently tied for the second position in the National League West with the Colorado Rockies.
