San Diego Padres beat Seattle Mariners at Safeco Park to avenge shutout – MLB news
San Diego Padres took a sweet revenge from the Seattle Mariners by beating them 6-1 at the Safeco Park on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 in front of a nearly 12,000 strong crowd.
The Mariners had blanked the Padres 9-0 in the previous ballgame.
The Padres were in control for the most part of the game. The only time the Mariners could go ahead was when they scored in the bottom of the second innings courtesy of Jesus Sucre sacrifice fly to get Michael Morse home.
The Padres featured on the scoreboard for the first time in the top of the fourth innings when Jedd Gyorko smashed a two-run home-run. It was his sixth long ball for the season.
Alexi Amarista than went deep in the fifth innings in a solo effort to double the lead for the San Diego ballclub.
Top of the sixth innings saw the Padres add three more runs to their total. Mark Kotsay sent a line drive to the centre field to get a two-run RBI single. An error in the same innings by the Mariners’ second baseman Nick Franklin allowed Chris Denorfia to
reach the first base and Jedd Gyorko scored.
Chase Headley was ground out and left the bases loaded to bring an eventful innings to an end. It was also the last innings in the game in which any runs were scored.
Edinson Volquez picked up his fourth win of the season to improve his win-loss record to 4-5. The pitcher recorded his first win since May 5.
Edinson allowed just a single run in the strong show that he put forth in nearly eight innings that he pitched in. A total of four hits with three walks and five strikeouts certainly make the performance look quite good.
The Padres will now host a two-game series against the Mariners at the Petco Park starting from Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
It is certainly a great win for the San Diego Padres who will be looking to take advantage of the win into the upcoming series. With home conditions, the Padres have a good chance of getting the better of their opponents.
