San Diego Padres centre-fielder Cameron Maybin receives extension – MLB News
The San Diego Padres have taken a drastic step forward to give their centre fielder Cameron Maybin extension until 2017 worth $25 million. The announcement came on late Saturday night when the Padres’ top official issued a statement explaining Maybin’s extension
a good sign for the club. The statements further states as the extension has come after a long discussion with Maybin’s agent.
"It's a great thing that ownership and (Byrnes) got together with Cam and his agent and worked this out," Padres manager Bud Black said. "This gives Cam some security and stability and gives us a player that is under vital contract that we're excited to
have."
Later, Maybin said, "It means a lot that these guys want me to be the face of the franchise, which I'm ready to be, I didn't have the year I wanted to (last year) with the team. I think there are a lot more in there and a lot to come."
Maybin a five-year veteran and highly skilful individual having well managed career hitting average of .255 along with 22 home-runs, 85 RBIs and .318 OBP, is certainly a great addition and his presence that will allow the Padres to perform more open on their
offensive side, also gives them huge confidence to perform well in the next season.
Playing for the Detroit Tigers and Florida Marlins in the recent past, Maybin came into the Padres’ franchise in 2011 and since then performing well here with full flair. His late extension with the club is a healthy sign and in the coming years, his performance
will also increase with the sheer confidence he has been given by the Padres management.
Experts also believe as Padres’ have now become stronger with Maybin’s extension and in the coming days, both will be benefiting with this late agreement. Currently Maybin along with his all teammates is practising in Arizona in 2012 Major League Baseball
Spring Training. Apart from the Padres itself, the teammates of Maybin are also happy for him as he will be playing for the team for another five years that will strengthen the franchise for sure.
