San Diego Padres clinch series by 2-1 over Los Angeles Dodgers: MLB Update
The San Diego Padres’ starter, Dustin Moseley struck out six, batters blistered splendid hits, and the Club crushed the league's rival, Los Angeles Dodgers by 7-0 to clinch the three game series, 2-1 at the Dodger Stadium on Sunday night, May 1.
Moseley pitched seven innings, gave three scoreless hits to earn his first win of the series. Moseley was sure to have such a win anytime in the season and he got it at the right time in the Club’s series win game. He now has moved to 1-3 with a 1.63 ERA
and hopes to have better outings in the coming days.
Moseley said, "I've been telling people and telling these guys all along that it's going to happen. It was just a matter of time. But I'm glad it happened today."
Moseley was having a bad 2011 year, as he had not won any game in his first five starts despite having a 1.99 ERA. The Padres did not made any run in Moseley’s first three starts and went for a sweep while he gave just four runs in these starts. Now, he
has helped in achieving two back-to-back wins for the second time in this season after the first two opening games.
He further said, "You understand how the game works and that everybody's trying their very best. The guys that we have in this clubhouse, there's nobody slacking or not going out there preparing to do their job. Everybody is working hard and trying to get
better. So when you see that, there's no reason for you to be upset. And today, we came out and scored all these runs."
The Padres’ batting line-up, who has the worst batting average of all teams, seemed to gain momentum, because they added seven runs for the first time in this season. Cameron Maybin led the game off with a runs batted in (RBI) single in third inning, then,
Brad Hawpe touched RBI double in the same inning to take the Club 3-0.
The Dodgers’ starter, Jon Garland, after giving these runs, made a splendid revisit, held the Padres scoreless in his last three innings and took out eight batters. He gave four walks and lost his second game with 3.81 ERA.
The Dodger’s reliever Hong-Chih Kuo struggled terribly in his return from the disabled list and gave four runs in the last inning. He gave hit, to Jorge Cantu for a single, to Jason Bartlett for RBI run and to Chase Headley for RBI double.
The Padres reliever, Mike Adams and closer Chad Qualls did not give any run in their one inning spell each.
