San Diego Padres could sign free agent reliever Brett Myers – MLB Update
The San Diego Padres are looking serious to land Chicago White Sox’s free agent relief pitcher Brett Myers in the roster. A reliable news network has reported recently that the Padres are talking to reliever Myers and his agent for a potential long term
deal.
Myers last played for the Chicago White Sox and filed for free agency this Major League Baseball offseason. He played quite consistently throughout the last season and earned appreciation from many.
He showed good commitment on the mound and provided the White Sox’s bullpen a strong backup. He went with consistent numbers and achieved 3.31 ERA along with 19 saves, 41 strikeouts and 1.22 WHIP. Overall Brett Myers also possesses good career numbers of
4.20 ERA along with 40 total saves, 1367 strikeouts, 1.33 WHIP.
Since he has filed for free agency, not only the Padres but many other leading Major League teams have shown interest in him. However, Myers and his agent are still looking their options for the upcoming big event.
Recently, the Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin has also told the media about his interest in Myers and some other good pitchers. "There may be [some offers], but we may walk out of here without any offers, I think there are going to be some
guys who wait," Melvin said.
"I just talked to them briefly, but there is nothing to that, We never got into [exchanging names]. It doesn't appear to be a match,” said Melvin, who was Rangers GM when that team drafted Dickey in 1996.
Melvin added with more detail explaining different aspects of the franchise’s needs, “There's a lot of teams last year that went with their own pitching, and we know the risk of that a little bit, But if you sit and you're looking at guys with 4.50 and 5.00
ERAs, you might as well go with your own young guys, you know?”
Though the Brewers’ GM is also looking positive to land Myers in the roster, but still it all depends on the ten-year Major League Baseball veteran as which team he wants to play with in the future.
