San Diego Padres crush Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 – MLB Update
The San Diego Padres dominated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, July 2 at Chase Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Clayton Richard pitched tremendously as the Padres power past the Diamondbacks with ease.
He tossed 8.2 innings and received only two runs on eight hits along with two earned runs. He also struck-out three hitters as his ERA remained consistent at 3.64.
"I smelled it but I couldn't reach it. I really wanted to finish that one out but wasn't able to do it. Home runs are fun to watch -- in the dugout," said Richard.
Reliever Joe Thatcher tossed the remaining 0.1 inning and finished the game with style for the Padres.
"I knew it depended on a lefty or righty coming up and when I saw Kubel on deck I thought it might be me, Clayton pitched such a good game so I wanted get this win for him." Thatcher said.
Trevor Cahill on the other hand, could not play well for the Diamondbacks. He pitched six innings and received four runs on seven hits along with two earned runs while his ERA rose to 3.63.
“I didn't feel comfortable out there the whole game, They were swinging early and I couldn't get my offspeed over for strikes so I had to go with fastballs.” Cahill said.
Padres’ played aggressive from start of the game and never let the Diamondbacks take control. Taking the lead early in the first inning, the Padres kept the scoreboard ticking and stretched their lead to six in the bottom of the ninth. On other end, the Padres’ pitchers held the Diamondbacks batters with enormous force and never gave them any chance to score freely which eventually proved decisive for them.
San Diego certainly needed this victory as they are already at the bottom in the National League West.
Their win-loss record and winning percentages are not good and in order to prevail into the post season, they will be looking for some winning momentum which will surely help them achieve some decent results later in the regular season.
