San Diego Padres crush Houston Astros 8-2 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres crushed the Houston Astros in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 17 at Petco Park in San Diego.
This was a wonderful win for the Padres as they certainly needed that kind of victory to boost their confidence.
Winning the series 2-1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers certainly lifted their spirits to see their potential chances into the post-season.
Padres played like a team on Tuesday and never gave any chance to the Astros to dominate the game at any stage.
Their entire roster played wonderfully and earned a great victory.
Padres’ were playing on their home field as they started with a quick run early in the game. They pushed the Astros behind with full force and kept the score-board ticking.
Leading early into the second, the Padres scored in quick succession and gave a humiliating defeat to the Astros.
Starter Ross Ohlendorf played wonderfully for the Padres and never gave any chance to the Astros’ batters to score freely.
He kept the Astros’ batters under pressure with his fast and curving deliveries and eventually won in the end.
He pitched six innings and gave two run and one earned run on six hits. He retired six potential Astros’ hitters and proved unplayable during his spell.
"In the beginning my slider wasn't as good as it was later in the game," Ohlendorf said. "I was really happy with the way I pitched, especially going deeper in the game."
Yonder Alonso with the bat, played tremendously for the Padres. He scored two runs on two hits along with three RBIs as his performance remained one of the winning factors for San Diego.
"I think the past month has been a lot better," Alonso said. "The younger guys, especially myself, are more comfortable. If you have a group of guys having good at-bats against a pitcher, anytime you do that, it just gets better and better."
Experts believe that this was certainly a great win for the Padres as now they will play aggressively and try to achieve a possible post-season qualification. This win will definitely help the Padres psychologically as they will be looking to carry their
winning momentum forward.
