San Diego Padres defeat Miami Marlins 7-2 – Major League Recap
The San Diego Padres defeated the Miami Marlins 7-2 in the first game their three-match regular series encounter on Thursday, July 27 at Marlins Park in Miami.
Despite losing the series against the San Francisco Giants, the Padres arrived at Marlins Park with big energy and won in the end.
They played beautifully and kept the Marlins under pressure and eventually took the game away in style.
Though the Marlins went early into the lead, but the Padres bounced back with full force and rattled their opponents by a huge margin.
“They only scored in two innings and that was enough, Those two innings are what killed us. It's not as if they came out and scored every inning. I wonder what happened to Carlos tonight. It was too quick," Marlins' manager Ozzie Guillen said of his team’s performance in this particular game.
Yasmani Grandal and Yonder Alonso played well for the Padres and earned a decent victory.
"Tomorrow there will be more, so hopefully I'll get more cheers than Yasmani did," Alonso said.
Later Padres’ manager Bud Black appreciated both players contribution, “Good for those guys, probably took a little weight off of their shoulders coming back to Miami, I'm sure they left a lot of tickets and to get a couple big hits, a couple RBIs, and have us win made a lot of people here happy,"
Third baseman Chase Headley also played well with his two runs on three at-bats.
Along with hitters, Padres' pitchers also did well on the mound and secured a good win for his team.
Kip Wells pitched six innings and allowed only two runs and five hits. He gave two earned runs and struck-out four batters on 3.82 ERA.
On the other hand, Marlins' pitcher Carlos Zambrano and relief pitcher Dan Jennings did not show their natural aggressive plays.
Combined they allowed seven runs and six hits along with six earned runs as well. They could have played a lot better but somehow could not control their fast deliveries and were hammered with big hits. This proved disastrous for the Marlins as they lost with bitter humiliation.
