San Diego Padres defeat New York Mets 9-5 – MLB Update
Heath Bell served as the best available closer on Wednesday, August 10 to help the San Diego Padres beat the New York Mets 9-5 at Citi Field in New York.
Will Venable played his part as the instrumental hitter to help the team win.
Having lost the last two encounters of the four-game series, the San Diego Padres did not want to lose the third in row. It was this prospect of winning that Heath Bell had in the head, vowing not to let the Mets prevail, as he pitched an effective inning.
For him, third consecutive win for the Mets was no option. "It was a shocker and we were just like, there's no way how it's going to happen three nights in a row," All-Star closer Heath Bell said. "We kind of figure we have to be really good. We've got to
be on our A-game or we're not going to win."
It was Logan Forsythe who played his role with a leap towards Willie Harris to wrap up the game with a victory. "It's nice to get another shot at it, especially to help Heath out," Forsythe said. "I wanted the ball again because I wanted to redeem myself.
Because I'd be a lot more frustrated right now if that would have hurt us."
Jason Bartlett started the game with a single in the very first inning against the Mets R.A. Dickey. Aaron Harang threw a shut-out inning to maintain the lead for the Padres. Luis Martinez got a single and Will Venable scored the second of the inning to
triple the lead for the San Diego Padres.
With 3-0 lead to their advantage, the Padres’ Harang threw another shut-out to maintain the lead followed by a 2-hit two-run third inning. Logan Forsythe snapped a single while Alberto Gonzalez scored another to make it 5-0 by the end of the third inning.
Dickey scored the first run for the Mets in the fifth, Jason Pridie brought in two more runs in the sixth inning to give the Mets an opportunity to make a comeback in the game. But Cameron Maybin hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to take the Padres lead
to 6-3.
Willie Harris scored a single in the eighth that appeared to be an attempt to keep the Mets floating with 6-4 score, but the Mets sparked in the ninth to change the map of the game. Cameron Maybin scored a single followed by Jesus Guzman who was followed
by Logan Forsythe to take the lead to 9-4.
Bell gave up two hits and allowed a run to Ruben Tejada, but kept tossing strong enough pitches to conclude the game with a 9-5 score for the San Diego Padres.
