San Diego Padres down Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 at the Dodgers Stadium – MLB News
San Diego Padres downed the Los Angeles Dodgers by a clear margin of 6-2 at the Dodgers Stadium in front of a 40,000-plus crowd on Wednesday, June 5, 2013.
Despite the strong offensive performance by the Padres, the game will be remembered more for the good work done by veteran pitcher Jason Marquis. Jason recorded his seventh win of the season and now had a spectacular
7-2 winning record in 2013.
He threw a little over six innings and gave away just two earned runs to record the win. His good work was appreciated by manager of the Padres Bud Black. He was impressed by how he was able to use his sinker
to good effect.
"Tonight, we saw the legit sinker," said Black. "He was pounding it in on the righties and away from the lefties. It was a lot of sinker and sliders down underneath."
He was also happy that the 34-year-old was able to exercise the control that was required from him in the game. He did everything that was demanded of him by the team.
"He's done what we ask of our starting pitchers," Black said. "He's hung in there and given us a chance to win. He's a bulldog."
The game was close till the end when Padres were able to score three runs in the top of the ninth innings.
Jason Marquis himself felt that he was able to deliver the pitches the way he wanted to. He was particularly happy about the sinker which he called his bread and butter.
"I've been working really hard to find a consistent delivery. I was able to do that tonight. The execution of my sinker was where I wanted it," Marquis said. "When I have a good one like that, I like to use it
a lot. The sinker is my bread and butter."
It was a great win for the San Diego ballclub who are currently fourth in the National League West with a 27-32 win-loss record. They pitched and batted well in the game and it important that they are able to
continue the good work in the games to come.
