San Diego Padres ease past Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres ease past the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, August 26 at Chase Field in Phoenix.
Padres’ entire batting lineup played beautifully and earned a great victory for their team.
"When [seven wins in a row] happens, you are doing everything, That's what winning streaks are all about. If one of those falters, you more than likely will lose a game or two. But our guys have played well through this streak," Padres manager Bud Black said.
Third baseman Chase Headley scored one run and smashed two hits on his five at bats while his slugging percentage was also remained consistent at .469.
Left fielder Carlos Quentin did well on his four at bats as he scored one run and smashed one hit along with one RBI on his .512 slugging percentage.
Catcher Yasmani Grandal also played well as he scored two runs on his two at bats. He also ran for a RBI and maintained his slugging percentage at .500.
Pitcher Edinson Volquez played exceptionally well with the bat and with the ball. His hard hitting earned him one run for the Padres while his accurate pitching retired seven potential Padres batters.
No doubt Volquez was the most promising performer of the Padres’ roster as he pitched seven innings and allowed only two runs on his slugging percentage of 4.10.
"We're playing pretty good right now, Hitting, pitching and defense. It was good to win three games here, It was a tough inning in the first inning. I threw about 25 pitches but after that, everything was good, Sometimes, it takes some pitches to get your arm loose and get the ball where you want," Volquez said.
Relief pitcher Brad Brach also supported his teammate and starting pitcher Volquez well as he pitched 0.2 innings and allowed two runs and two hits on his 4.11 ERA.
On the other hand, the Diamondbacks pitchers did not play well and hammered with big hits.
Starter Trevor Cahill spoiled the entire game and proved disastrous for the Diamondbacks as he pitched 3.2 innings and allowed four runs and eight hits on his 3.99 ERA.
