San Diego Padres ease past San Francisco Giants 6-3 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres defeated the San Francisco Giants 6-3 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, July 25 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
Though the series was already lost by the Padres but still this particular win proved a morale boosting sign and now they will enter with more energy in their upcoming three-match series against the Miami Marlins.
Right fielder Jesus Guzman smashed two homers on his four at bats along with three RBIs and helped his team to lead past the Giants with ease.
"He had been throwing me that pitch [high fastball] ... I was just looking for something up in the zone. I put a good swing on it," Guzman said after the game explained about his tremendous performance which gave the Padres a wonderful win.
Later Padres’ outfielder Will Venable commented on Guzman and said, “He was aggressive with the fastball early and then he kind of got away from it a little bit, and we were able to get a barrel on it."
Starter Jason Marquis also did well and pitched 7.1 solid innings and allowed only three runs and three hits. He also gave only one earned run and retired eight Giants’ batters.
Marquis looked sharp on the mound as his ERA remained consistent at 3.48.
"I've been searching the last week for my delivery, It was messing with my release point. But about the fifth inning, I started feeling better," Marquis said.
On the other hand, the Giants’ pitchers especially starting pitcher Tim Lincecum and relief pitcher Brad Penny performed real poor and could not save the game in the end.
Lincecum tossed 4.2 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. He also gave five earned runs along with two homers as his ERA rose to 5.88.
“My stuff was pretty good in the beginning of the game," Lincecum said. "I started losing my spots more.”
Along with his team-mate starter relief pitcher Brad Penny was also hammered one run and four hits. He also gave one earned run along with a homer on 3.97 ERA.
