San Diego Padres edge past Colorado Rockies 3-1 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres defeated the Colorado Rockies 3-1 in their second game of three-match 2012 Major League Baseball regular series on Tuesday, May 8 at Petco Park, San Diego and won the contest 2-0 with one game still remaining.
Starter Jeff Suppan played a key role in his team’s win and allowed only two hits and two walks and one run.
His performance has given some huge confidence to the Padres management who understands that his arrival in the big league and vital support was much needed in the franchise.
Suppan, who was called in from Triple-A Tucson after the Padres left hander pitcher Cory Luebke was put on to disabled list, is certainly playing much productive baseball for his senior team.
“I learned a lot from last year and I learned a lot from this year," said Suppan, who was signed as a minor league free agent in the offseason. "What I've learned is to always be ready."
"I had some command issues but I just kind of kept battling," Suppan said. "Basically, from that point on, I took every at-bat like it was its own game and did the best I could. From there, it was the bullpen. The bullpen did a fantastic job making up some
innings there."
Both teams started off well and made one run each in the very first inning of the game. On the other hand, the Padres batting line-up looked more aggressive, who took the one run lead in the fifth inning and eventually won the game in the last inning.
With this loss, the Rockies have also lost the three-match series with one game still to play on Wednesday, May 9.
San Diego Padres on the other hand, sitting close to the Rockies in overall National League West standing with slight less .355 winning percentage.
In some experts’ view, this was a healthy sign for the Padres, who now can look onto their next potential series’ as well.
If they do defeat their next opponents like Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels, there is a fair chance that they will climb up in their own division.
