San Diego Padres edge past Colorado Rockies 3-2 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres edge past Colorado Rockies 3-2 in a close game on Monday, May 7 at Petco Park, San Diego, California and took 1-0 lead in their three match regular series encounter of 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Padres starter Edinson Volquez turned out to be the lucky one as he received his first victory since start of the season.
Volquez got his first victory after starting seven times in this season, but he was not the only one who took the game away from the Rockies. Instead, the Padres’ batters were also there to help him getting the first victory.
Yonder Alonso was the other star of the game as he drove two runs of the Padres and proved too good for the Rockies to match.
However, the pitcher Volquez allowed two runs along with five hits, four walks and struck-out five in over five innings.
"About time," said Volquez with confidence. "It feels good. I don't care how I win the game, but I want to win."
"Tonight I wasn't sharp like my last three games," Volquez added. "It happens sometimes. Sometimes you feel like you have nothing and tonight was one of those days. The bullpen came on and did a pretty good job."
Later the Padres manager Bud Black stated on his team’s tremendous effort. He said, “That was a typical Petco Game where it comes down at the end to relief work or a big hit, and today was relief work and the Rockies didn't get the big hit."
The Padres’ took command of the game early in the very first innings and held back the Rockies until the end. They took away the game in style despite the Rockies did try coming back into the game in third and sixth innings.
Though San Diego Padres are at bottom in the National League West, but the way their roster is playing in the current Major League Baseball season, is certainly an alarming situation for the other teams in the Division.
In the meanwhile, the second game of both these giants is scheduled on Tuesday, May 8.
