San Diego Padres floor Colorado Rockies 7-1 – MLB Update
San Diego Padres secured a much need victory over Colorado Rockies 7-1 at the Coors Field in Denver, Colorado on Monday, April 16 in the opening game of a three match series between the two teams.
The way the Padres dominated their rivals in finer details of the game will certainly boost their confidence levels. Ideally, the skipper and company will be looking to continue their superb form throughout this series to improve their win-loss record. Playing an aggressive brand of baseball can be the only way forward for the Padres at this point.
The Rockies, on the other hand, failed to make an impression in front of their home crowd. They have now lost four out of their seven home games this year and they will be hoping to make the most of available opportunities in the next game to keep the series alive.
Chase Headley had a great time on the plate as he recorded three doubles and Nick Hundley drove in three runs to help the Padres take complete control of the game.
"We just talked a little bit about relaxing and understanding that you play a 162-game season," Headley said. "While it looks really, really ugly right at the moment, there's a long ways to go. But it was nice to have some breathing room."
"Offense did a good job setting the tone early," Cory Luebke said who pitched seven strong innings to earn his first win of the season. "They just went out and took a little pressure off."
"That was one of the focuses -- getting deep and trying to compete and giving the team a chance to win," Jeremy Guthrie said.
The win will be of great significance for the Padres who have looked completely out of sorts since the start of this season. With just three wins and eight losses in their eleven games this regular season, the Padres still have a lot to prove to restore their lost pride.
Their win over the Rockies on Monday evening was only their third and it will be interesting to see if they can bring any consistency in their game play over the next few weeks.
