San Diego Padres hammered by San Francisco Giants 2-3 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres were hammered by the San Francisco Giants 2-3 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 24 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
Padres’ entire roster did not play well and could not save the game. They started poorly and lost in the end.
They gave an early advantage to the Giants as they scored two runs in the very first inning. Though later in the bottom of the second, the Padres levelled the score, but eventually Giants remained determined and won in the last inning.
Giants’ upfront offence played certainly well and earned a great victory for their team. Starter Madison Bumgarner pitched seven solid innings and allowed two runs and six hits. He remained calm on the mound and never showed any-loop holes in his pitching. He allowed only two earned runs and retired nine Giants’ hitters as his ERA stayed consistent at 3.10.
"It's going to be hard to find a better catch than Pagan's," Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy said. "It goes to show that defense can win a ballgame."
Padres’ starter Edinson Volquez, despite playing good, could not save the game. He allowed only two runs and three hits on his tremendous 3.30 ERA while he also retired eight Giants’ batters. His pitching was quite accurate but still his throws were not enough to help the Padres take control of the game.
Padres’ manager Bud Black said, "A fabulous catch by Pagan, No doubt about it, saved the game. One of the best catches I've seen in a long, long time."
Brandon Crawford and Angel Pagan played well for the Giants to help the team with their hitting skills.
"When you hit the ball well you are going to have confidence no matter the situation," Crawford said.
Later Pagan said, "That was one of the best plays of my career, I wanted a good jump to try and prevent the runner from scoring."
Overall the game was played at a high pace in which both teams had chances to take control of the game but eventually the Giants proved more solid in their offence and won in the end.
