San Diego Padres hire Rich Dauer as San Antonio Missions Manager- MLB News

The San Diego Padres have named former Major league infielder Rich Dauer as their new manager for the San Antonio Missions, their Double-A affiliate team. He will be replacing John Gibbons who took the manager’s position for the Toronto Blue Jays last month.
Rich was a coach with the Colorado Rockies for the last four years. The Missions have expressed their delight on the signing and are looking forward to having someone as experienced as Dauer to lead their team.
"We are honored to have Rich as our new manager," David Gasaway, who is the Missions general manager, said. "He brings with him a wealth of Major League experience, and we look forward to him guiding our team in the 2013 season."
Randy Smith, vice president of international scouting and player development of the San Diego Padres, was equally looking forward to Rich being a part of the Padres’ Organisation.
"We're fortunate to have someone with Rich's experience and expertise available," he said.
Rich was an accomplished college ball player and was drafted by the Orioles in 1974. His career in the Majors kicked off in 1976.
Dauer has had a long career in the Major League and his good work for the Baltimore Orioles, the only Major League team he ever represented, got him into the Baltimore Orioles’ Hall of Fame earlier this year. In his 10-year-long playing career, he posted
a .257 batting average and a .310 on-base percentage. He also has a World Series championship to his name in 1983.
Rich has had previous experience in the Minors as well and has coached in five different organisations. He has only managed one Minor League team before though, the Los Angeles Dodgers Class-A affiliates the San Bernardino all the way back in 1987. He posted
a 70-72 result as a manager of the Class-A team.
Dauer is an experienced coach and manager and can bring that experience to work for the San Antonio Missions. The farm teams are an important part of any ball club as they provide the future players to them.
One can hope that Rich will be instrumental in providing the San Diego Padres with some good names in the future that will develop under his guidance in the Minors.
