San Diego Padres humiliate Atlanta Braves 11-2 – MLB Update
San Diego Padres’ batters displayed an impressive play right through the game as they outclassed the pitchers by taking runs in unremitting intervals and gave the Padres an 11-2 victory against the Atlanta Braves at Petco Park, San Diego on June 24.
The batters got out in the first inning without the addition of any run. Jordan Schafer got out in left-field and Chipper Jones was out at second base in the top of the first inning. Similarly, Jason Bartlett was grounded out to short-stop and Ryan Ludwick
struck-out looking at the bottom part of the first.
The Padres took their first run in the second inning and got a 1-0 lead when Nick Hundley singled to left-field and Anthony Rizzo scored one run. During the third inning, Ludwick hit a grounder off short-stop and Will Venable posted a single run to give
the Padres a 2-0 lead.
The pitchers threw some ideal pitches in the fourth and fifth innings to control the scoring shots of the batters. The Padres’ starter, Tim Stauffer was outstanding with the ball as he pitched seven overriding innings with an ERA of 3.09 and permitted two
runs on four hits including two earned runs. He was able to strike-out nine batters and did not allow any walk on 106 pitches.
Stauffer said, “If we start putting some things together, we're going to be all right. It was a lot of fun to be a part of. It's just good to see guys see some results of hitting the ball hard and seeing some breaks go our way.”
During the sixth inning, the Padres led off 5-0 by scoring three runs. Cameron Maybin, Rizzo and Hundley each singled to advance the lead of their team. At the top of the seventh, the Braves’ batters broke their silence and posted two runs when Freddie Freeman
hit a solo homer (409 feet) towards centre-field and Jason Heyward scored one run.
On the other hand, the Padres’ batters continued to extend their lead as they smashed six runs at the bottom of the seventh inning to move the score-board 11-2. Orlando Hudson, Ludwick, Rizzo, Maybin and Alberto Gonzalez each added five runs while Jesus
Guzman homered (400 feet) towards left-field to end the six-run campaign.
The batters did not score any run during the last two innings of the game.
