San Diego Padres humiliate Florida Marlins 14-1 – MLB Update
The San Diego Padres routed the Florida Marlins by 14-1 on Saturday, August 20 to win the third consecutive encounter of the four-game series at Petco Park.
While Aaron Harang was unplayable as he tossed the first inning, barely allowing any run to the Florida Marlins’ hitters, the San Diego Padres’ offence seemed predisposed since the start of the game to do something unusual.
Having won the first two games by 3-1 and 4-3, the Padres laid a solid foundation for a much bigger win on Saturday once Clay Hensley came to pitch the first inning for the Florida Marlins. He was in for an unforgiving and ruthless Padres’ offence.
Orlando Hudson had the first big hit of the night to snap in a three-run homer for the San Diego Padres while Kyle Blanks homered to left to make it 4-0 by the end of the first inning which also saw 4-hits.
Much to the frustration of the Florida Marlins, Aaron Harang remained virtually unplayable that maintained the lead intact by the end of the fourth inning. As Clay Hensley came on the mound to toss the bottom of the fourth, another stunning blow awaited
him.
Logan Forsythe was the first one to double to deep left to lift the score to 5-0 while Jason Bartlett and Cameron Maybin followed with a single each to have a safe 7-0 lead for the San Diego Padres by the end of the fourth.
The ostensibly disastrous start that Hensley made promoted the Florida Marlins to bring a change in the pitching line-up, but even that would not save the team. With Burke Badenhop on the mound, the Padres’ offence shone once again.
Logan Forsythe drove in another run while Will Venable went for a two-run triple to deep left centre, taking the lead to 10-0 for the Padres. Jose Lopez, on the other hand, was the first to score for the Marlins in the sixth inning as no other hitter could
make it.
With Badenhop gone, Chris Hatcher was brought in as another reliever to stop the flow of the runs. That did not materialise, as Orlando Hudson singled to right, making it 11-1 while Kyle Banks had another run to score following Nick Hundley’s homer that
made it 14-1 for the Padres by the end of the sixth.
Anthony Bass relieved Aaron Harang and tossed a shut-out seventh and eighth, while Jose Ceda had two shut-out innings for the Florida Marlins. Josh Spence came as a closer and tossed a scoreless ninth to have a safe and comfortable 14-1 win for the San Diego
Padres against the struggling Marlins.
