San Diego Padres lose to Houston Astros 3-5 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres lost to Houston Astros 3-5 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, June 26 at Minute Maid Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
San Diego played poorly and could not capitalise on their pitching and in the end, received a costly defeat.
Unlike game one of their current series, in which the Padres’ won 8-7, Houston never allowed any chance to their opponents in the very next game and eventually levelled the series 1-1.
J.D. Martinez and Jed Lowrie played brilliantly for the Astros and earned a great victory for their team. Both players scored three runs in quick successions which proved ultimate for the Astros as they easily surpassed the Padres.
"I just feel happy that I was able to contribute and make an impact on the game, It's always what you want to do. You want to make a difference -- anything you can do to help the team win." said Martinez.
Later Houston’s manager Brad Mills commented on his players’ contribution and the different aspects of his overall roster’s performance, "He's getting back into that hitter that we all saw last year and that's nice to see, He's on a little roll here and
we surely hope that can continue. He's been throwing the ball extremely well for us. He just wasn't as crisp as he has been, but he just picked it up as he went along."
Astros’ starter Jordan Lyles also performed well and received only one run on six hits. He tossed 6.1 innings and struck-out four Padres’ hitters as his ERA remained consistent at 4.59.
Kip Wells on the other hand, received five runs on seven hits and certainly lost the game for the Padres. He pitched five innings and struck-out only two while his ERA also rose to 3.60.
Although, now the series is levelled at 1-1 but some experts believe that the way Astros have demonstrated their offensive power in the second game of the series, it will be much easier for them now to take away the series as well. The Padres will be disappointed
by their performance as they try to build up some much needed confidence in their game-play.
