San Diego Padres lose to Miami Marlins 2-4 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres lost to Miami Marlins 2-4 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, July 28 at Marlins Park in Miami.
Marlins played aggressive from start of the game and bounced back into the series as they were defeated in the first game of the series 7-2.
Marlins’ entire roster played as one unit and kept the Padres under pressure for most of the game which eventually proved wonderful in the end as they defeated them in style with a two-run margin.
The Padres on the other hand, could not match the Marlins’ brilliance and lost the game with bitter humiliation.
They played defensively and never attacked the Marlins. Instead they remained under pressure during the entire game. Their pitchers and batters did not perform according to their manager’s plan and suffered a hard defeat.
Padres’ only two players Chase Headley and Carlos Quentin looked sharp in the field while no other player stood against the Marlins extraordinary pitching. Both players earned one run a-piece.
Marlins' starter Nate Eovaldi on the other end handcuffed the Padres batters with his 5.1 fast and accurate innings as he received only one run and five hits. He allowed one run on his 3.94 ERA while he also struck-out five Padres' batters.
"It's great, I worked ahead a lot. Me and [catcher John] Buck got on the same page early in the game, they made great plays behind me," Eovaldi said.
Later in the game Marlins' manager Ozzie Guillen commented on his starter and said, “He pitched well, I think he's got a good arm. You can see he is still a baby still needs polish, but I love the arm. His presence on the mound is very good. He's not scared to throw any pitch in any count, that will help him."
San Diego manager Bud Black also appreciated Marlins’ starter and said, “First time we've seen him live, Good live arm, up to 97 [mph]. Good overhand hook. Cut the ball in there in the high 90s."
On the other hand, the Padres' starter Ross Ohlendorf was hammered with three runs in just six innings and showed very little fighting spirit as he could not save the game for his team.
