San Diego Padres lose to Philadelphia Phillies 2-3 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres lost to Philadelphia Phillies 2-3 in third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, May 13, at Citizen Bank Park, Philadelphia in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win the Phillies have also won the series 2-1.
Starter Cole Hamels held the Padres with only one run and proved winning factor for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Later in the game, he talked to reporters in detail.
Hamels said, "It's nice to get some runs. Obviously when you get runs you can win, I know if I just go out there and I battle and try to pitch deep into the ball game and we put up some runs, then I can get wins."
He added, “If we're able to score early then I just have to work off that. There's been a few times where we scored late. I think it's helpful just being able to go out there and know that your team is going to come through at the end."
Hamels stayed on the mound for seven innings and kept the pressure on the Padres’ batters who just could not hit him freely despite hitting him five times long in the field. He gave one run and one earned run.
Later in the game, Padres' manager Bud Black also appreciated the Phillies starter who has provided his team a sixth straight win in which he started for the franchise.
On the other hand, Padres starting pitcher Jeff Suppan pitched subtle on the mound during his six innings’ spell, but the Phillies batters understood his curving throws and went after him with six hits along with three runs and two earned runs and one strikeouts.
The game started off well with the early lead of Phillies of one run into first inning while they extended it to two before the Padres bounced back added one run in their score tally. However eventually the Phillies scored one run extra in the fifth and also took the game away 3-2 in the end.
Despite losing the game as well as series, the Padres are now going to face Washington Nationals in their next three-match encounter.
