San Diego Padres lose to Philadelphia Phillies 3-7 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres lost to Philadelphia Phillies 3-7 in their first game of three-match regular encounter on Friday, May 11, at Citizen Bank Park, Philadelphia in 2012 Major League Baseball season and took a commanding position in home series.
Catcher Carlos Ruiz played wonderfully for his team going 3-for-3 and a home run for the Phillies provided a perfect plat form where the rest of the lineup paved the winning combination.
"I think we needed that," Ruiz said. "Charlie said a lot good things and we thought about it right after the meeting. I think it was right, and we didn't show too much energy. Today, we saw a little more, so that's good."
Phillies' left fielder John Mayberry Jr. also played a key role for his team’s welcome win over the struggling Padres with a thrashing home run as well as driving three runs towards victory.
On the other hand, not only the Phillies starting batting lineup played wonderfully and proved its worth, but the starting rotation also showed his strength and proved helpful for their team’s win.
Phillies starting pitcher Vance Worley looked cool and confidence throughout the game and went with three runs, six hits and struck out nine Padres batters.
"It's a good start for us to get back on the right foot and get a 'W' in our belts," Worley said. "We hit the ball better today and played some good defense. That's something we can build on."
From start of the game until it was finished in the favour of Phillies, both teams tried their best to dominate each other’s offence, but ultimately, the Padres fell short against Worley’s tremendous pitching and lost the game with 7-3.
With this win the Phillies have also snapped the three game losing streak and now looking confident to play the next game with more self-assurance.
After the game, the Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said for his team, "We came out tonight and we played better than they did and won the game.”
Both teams are now scheduled to meet in their second game on Saturday, May 12.
