San Diego Padres lose to Texas Rangers 1-2 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres lost to Texas Rangers 1-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, June 18 at Petco Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Padres played poorly and could not judge the aggressive offence of Rangers who later innings of the game never allowed any chance to them to dominate the game.
San Diego's batting line-up was handcuffed by the Rangers pitching offence which comprehensively defeated them with one run’s deficit.
Matt Harrison tossed six innings and received one run and six hits. He also struck out four batters and maintained his 3.41 ERA.
Harrison stood tall against the Padres batters as he never allowed them to score easily in his outing.
"After the first inning Marquis was outstanding," Harrison said. "Striking out 10 guys, he made his pitches. It was definitely a battle to keep the game where it was because he was on top of his game after the first."
Later the Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said for his team’s combined win, "After the first inning I thought we'd have a chance to do something with him, But he settled down and made his pitches. He really settled in. I didn't think he'd be around for the seventh inning, but he was. I tip my hat to him. Good pitching duel out there tonight."
The Padres starter Jason Marquis however, despite playing well still remained unable to save the game for his team.
He pitched seven innings and received two runs and five hits. He also received just two earned runs and struck out 10 batters while maintaining his ERA to 1.86, Marquis proved a healthy sign in the Padres rotation.
Although, Marquis’ pitching was quite impressive, but still their opponents were more aggressive as they held them under extreme pressure and won in the end.
The Rangers now hold the top position in the American League West Division with 41-27 win-loss along consistent .603 winning percentage.
Experts believe that this is healthy sign for the Rangers who are playing exceptionally well and also looking forward their way into post season.
