San Diego Padres make roster moves as Yonder Alonso, Jedd Gyorko return from injuries - MLB News

San Diego Padres are making some moves on their 25-man roster as some of their players are getting fit again including first baseman Yonder Alonso who has been on the disabled list since May 31.
Initially the first baseman had rested for a few days hoping that his hand injury would heal but he had to go on the disabled list after it became evident that the injury will take longer to recover.
Bud Black, the manager for the Padres, is pleased to see Yonder back in the lineup. He said that the hitter had posted some good numbers and had made a consistent start only to be interrupted by a broken hand.
"He was on a pretty consistent start; his numbers were holding their own," said Black. "It was a bummer it was interrupted by the broken hand."
The Padres have had a mixed season where they are either blowing hot or cold and have been looking to find some consistency in their performances. The team currently has a 41-53 record and is at the bottom of the table in the National
League West. Not too long ago, the team was holding the second spot in the highly competitive group.
Yonder has played a few rehab games and seems to have attained the required fitness level. He feels that he is doing good and is happy to be back in the team.
"Everything feels good. We did all the things we needed to do to feel good," Alonso said. "It's good to be back."
Yonder is currently batting with a .281 average and a .332 on-base percentage. He has batted in 29 runs and has gone long on six occasions in 55 games to date.
Jedd Gyorko also made a comeback after missing 30 games due to groin trouble. The rookie second baseman has a .284 batting average and a .341 on-base percentage with 25 RBI’s and eight home-runs in 60 games.
The return of the two was much needed by the San Diego ballclub who have had a tough time recently. A consistent performance from the two may be the catalyst the Padres need to gain momentum post All-Star game.
