San Diego Padres overwhelm Chicago White Sox 13-2 – MLB Spring Training

San Diego Padres overwhelmed Chicago White Sox 13-2 at the Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona on Wednesday, March 28 in their Cactus League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Edinson Volquez played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he tossed seven solid innings to help his team beat the White Sox 13-2. Considering the way Volquez pitched yesterday, it will be safe to say that he is ready for the upcoming season.
Allowing just five hits over seven innings pitched, he held the White Sox to just two runs.
"I was way better (after the first inning)," said Volquez, who struggled in the first last year, when he was with the Cincinnati Reds. "I made better pitches the rest of the way."
Striking out two and walking three in his longest outing of this spring, Volquez showed that he is determined to achieve his desired goals for the Padres.
"It was a great outing after the first 20 pitches," Padres manager Bud Black said. "The next 73 were outstanding. It took him a little while to settle in. But once he did, it was a delivery he repeated, repeated his arm slot, repeated his finish. All three
pitches were working. The (changeup) really got better as the game went on.”
Andy Parrino, Yonder Alonso and Chase Headley all homered as Padres had 18 combined hits.
The Padres will be very pleased with the way they dominated their rivals in almost all departments of the game. After making an aggressive start to the contest, the Padres continued to pressurise the White Sox with some high quality baseball skills.
With their win over Chicago, San Diego has now improved their spring win-loss record to 17-12. Padres’ fans will be very happy to see their team performing well after making a slow start to their Spring Training campaign.
While making it to the World Series finals may not be easy for the Padres, they can certainly make it to the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the Padres can continue their impress run throughout the season.
