The winter meetings have generated many transactions in this off season. While some deals have gone untended, some have been very high profile ones.
The 30 teams in the National League and the American League have been struggling to add some firepower to their rosters. The meetings however have enabled them to do so quickly. Major teams have already made progress and it seems the tide to win the Major
League has tilted away from this year’s successful clubs.
There have been strides made to sign the likes of Adrian Beltre and Cliff Lee but no development has come off them. The major signings so far include those of Jayson Werth, Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez. The change in gears after the meetings’ conclusion
will see the free agency activity slow down and the clubs will now enter into a bargaining game that would have been started by the negotiation process in the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort. Nevertheless, ball clubs are still optimistic about the future
and when there are almost two months left in the start of the spring training session, anything can happen.
One of the new developments to come out of the winter meetings concern the San Diego Padres’ bid to add more power to their pitching rotation. With the loss of good batting strength, the side is scheduled to hold internal board meetings to decide what to
do in the future. One of the matters concerns Dustin Moseley.
The former New York Yankees’ pitcher has been the talk of the town and after the Padres signed up Aaron Harang on a 1-year deal worth $900,000, considerations are being made to bring Dustin to the clubhouse. The player who started with the Anaheim Angels
is going to turn 29 soon. Many suspect a deal in the works and it could come as soon as his birthday. Moseley can provide cover in the bullpen as the Padres leading relief pitcher, Edward Mujica, moved out of the side towards the Florida Marlins.
Moseley played in 16 games for the Yankees last season and he did well for someone who had just moved into the side. The right hand pitcher posted an Earning Runs average of 4.96. In addition to that, he featured in 65.1 innings, allowing 66 hits and 36
runs. The professional ball thrower whipped out 33 hitters as well.
