San Diego Padres pounded by Atlanta Braves 0-6 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres got pounded by the Atlanta Braves 0-6 in the final game of their series on Thursday, August 16 at Turner Field in Atlanta.
Padres’ pitchers proved disastrous for their team as they could not just stop the Braves constant pounding.
Jason Marquis allowed six runs and eight hits and smashed for three homers. He pitched 4.2 innings and struck-out four on his 4.08 ERA.
Relief pitcher Brad Boxberger also received two hits on his 3.14 ERA.
Not only pitchers, the Padres' hitters also did not play well and lost in the end.
"We had some hard contact early in the game right at them but couldn't get anything going after that, They pitched well ... that happens, I still think we're swinging the bats OK as evidenced by our hard outs the last few days. Even some of his outs in this series were hard hit,” manager Bud Black said on his team’s performance with disappointment and told the media some essential facts of this particular defeat.
Short-stop Everth Cabrera disappointed with his batting as he could not score even a single run on his four at-bats.
Veteran third baseman Chase Headley though smashed two hits but still remained scores less on his four at-bats.
On the other hand, Kris Medlen started for the Braves and finished his nine innings spell without receiving a run. He received five hits and struck-out six on his 2.03 ERA.
While Chipper Jones with the bat proved his valour as he performed brilliantly scoring two runs, smashing hits along with three RBIs on his .519 slugging percentage.
"If we have to make some silly bobblehead things to get people in the stands, so be it. Keep doing it, but there are certain nights when it's special, whether certain family members are in the seats, or it's your birthday, or it's bobblehead night," Jones said after the game and explained about both his and the team’s overall performance.
Right fielder Jason Heyward with his one run, three hits and along with a RBI also contributed his part in the Braves’ win.
