San Diego Padres rout Atlanta Braves 3-0 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres defeated the Atlanta Braves 3-0 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, August 27 at Petco Park in San Diego.
Casey Kelly played brilliantly and earned a great victory for the Padres. He pitched six solid innings and allowed only three hits. He did not allow any run and remained calm on the mound. He struck-out four and stood tall against the entire Braves’ batting
line-up.
Kelly held the Braves’ experienced batters with great skill and proved one of the winning factors for the Padres.
"It's incredible that it happened, just it being his birthday and then them having an off day on the same day that I'm pitching," Casey Kelly said. "That just doesn't happen in baseball. So it's really special that he got to be here to see it."
"It was great to watch, but it's tough being a dad," Pat Kelly said. "I would much rather have been in the dugout. It was a little nerve-racking. He was fantastic. He had all his pitches working and he made quality pitches when he had to. It was fun to watch."
Not only Kelly, the other Padres’ pitchers also played well and never allowed the Braves to take control of the game.
Reliever Tom Layne pitched one inning and maintained his ERA. He struck-out one and supported his team well during the entire game.
Not only pitchers, the Padres’ hitters also played well and hammered the Braves’ with great intensity.
Chase Headley scored one run on his three at bats and maintained his slugging percentage at .467.
On the other hand, the Braves’ pitchers did not play well and lost the game with bitter humiliation. They did not fight back and eventually could not save the game.
Starter Paul Maholm pitched 6.2 innings and allowed two runs and eight hits. He struck-out five and received only one homer on his 3.44 ERA.
Reliever Chad Durbin pitched 0.1 innings and maintained his 2.96 ERA.
Miguel Batista pitched one inning and allowed one run and one hit. He was struck hard as his ERA rose to 4.91.
