San Diego Padres rout Chicago Cubs 2-0 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres edge past the Chicago Cubs 2-0 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, August 8 at Petco Park in San Diego.
With this win, the Padres also won the series 3-0. Not only this particular game but the Padres’ have played quite consistent in all three games and proved too good for the Cubs.
“Right now, when you start losing games and a lot of things aren't going your way, you're going to see some frustrations come out, That's part of the game. It's OK to see guys with emotion and fire," Cubs’ manager Dale Sveum said.
Sveum added, “I think our starting pitching has pitched really well and they've all filled in pretty admirably for the three guys we've lost, The bottom line is we've just all of a sudden stopped hitting, and we're not scoring any runs to take leads. It's not that easy when you're not getting a lead and putting crooked numbers up early in the game."
Padres’ entire roster played beautifully and never gave any chance to their opponents to take control of the game. They played aggressive and showed their valour which eventually landed them a third straight win over the Cubs.
Padres’ upfront pitcher was aggressive and showed his brilliance on the mound with enormous power. Veteran Clayton Richard pitched nine innings for the Padres and earned a decent victory for his team. He allowed only five hits and did not give any run on his 3.79 ERA.
His pitching, in which he did not give any run, was the most decisive play by any of the Padres as later it was also appreciated by his team-mates and team management.
On the other hand, Cubs’ starter Jeff Samardzija despite playing good, was still unable to provide his team a relatively decent result.
He pitched seven innings and allowed one run and one earned run on his 4.21 ERA. He received four hits and struck-out six Padres' batters.
His team-mate closer James Russell pitched one inning and allowed two hits and one run on his 3.14 ERA.
