San Diego Padres rout Los Angeles Dodgers 7-2 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-2 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 15 at Dodgers’ Stadium in Los Angeles.
Padres played as one unit and earned a great victory against the Dodgers.
Though the Dodgers went early into the lead but the Padres recovered quickly and started their offensive run which proved decisive in the end for San Diego.
Not only the batting lineup but the Padres pitchers also played brilliantly and kept the Dodgers under pressure throughout the game.
Starter Jason Marquis played exceptionally well and received only two runs on six hits. He also gave two earned runs and struck-out two Dodgers’ batters.
Padres’ manager Bud Black commented on his starter and said, "Marquis did a great job, He was under the weather, battling stomach flu, and he didn't sleep well last night. But he really gutted it out on a day that he wasn't a hundred percent, physically.
He stayed down in the tunnel between innings to cool off, but he hung in there."
On the other hand, the Dodgers’ starting pitcher Chris Capuano did not play well and could not save the game for his team.
He tossed 6.2 innings and gave up four runs on five hits. He was only able to strike-out three batters as his ERA remained at 2.75.
Closer Josh Lindblom also played poorly for the Dodgers as he gave up four hits and one run along with one earned run.
He was also smashed for a homer as his ERA rose to 3.24.
Later Jamey Wright was also hammered with three hits and two runs. His one inning could have saved the game for the Dodgers but overall it was a poor effort from the other pitchers which proved disastrous in the end.
San Diego will be happy with their efforts as they managed to put in a tremendous effort and take a comfortable win against the mighty Dodgers. Los Angeles will be disappointed as they were unable to get their offence going and looked sluggish during the
game.
It will be interesting to see how far the Padres can carry their winning momentum and build up some much needed confidence in their lineup.
