San Diego Padres’ sale still looms in the air – MLB News
Fearing bankruptcy, the San Diego Padres' management is currently receiving bids for potential sale of the franchise but some opposed disagreed with MLB authorities put this potential sale on hold.
Earlier, some inside MLB sources have speculated in the media that the Padres are done dealing with all the bids and have now entered in the final stages of sale. However, not only were these speculation false but now reports are suggesting that the Padres’ sale is currently temporarily on hold.
Though, no official statement from the Padres’ top management has come out in the media but the Padres CEO Jeff Moorad did describe saying this matter is “technical,” and have “no material impact,” leaving behind many unanswered questions.
Later, the Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig explained little about why the Padres’ are having problems and what potentially they can still do in order to make this sale smooth.
Selig said, “In order to make a recommendation to the 30 clubs, the ownership committee and the executive council unanimously have deferred their decision at this time to get more clarity and technical information. And the announcement is exactly what it says. It’s exactly what it says. The most important thing that we do is bringing in new owners. And so we have really become very, very fastidious about the economics; whether people can make it. And I’m not suggesting there’s anything negative. There were just questions (that) we didn’t have time here to answer.”
From Selig’s statement, the real picture of this delay in the sale somehow showed a clear representation but still many things are yet to be revealed in the media.
Many believe, the sale was almost done but when the Padres' Chairman John Moores was asked by the MLB authorities a series of financial questions, he remained silent giving MLB authorities reasons to put this sale on hold.
Some renowned sports personalities and giants of business are making a desperate effort to buy the Dodgers but only the time will tell who has the strongest financial backup to buy this Major League franchise.
