San Diego Padres seal 5-3 triumph over Atlanta Braves in thirteenth inning - MLB Update
The San Diego Padres’ Ryan Ludwick, hit a leading homer in the thirteenth, as the club clinched a 5-3 victory in an electrifying outing against Atlanta Braves at Petco Park, California on Monday, April 25 to take a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.
Ludwick hammered the second homer of the game to earn the ninth victory for the club. With a three-rows-back hit, the left fielder also increased his .184 batting averages to .195 on Monday night.
Ryan might have not been so happy if the Padres’ starter Dustin Moseley was unable to recover so impressively after giving up a homer in first inning. Moseley struck back strongly, as he took two batters in his next four innings without allowing any run
and put the opposition under pressure.
The Padres’ manager Buck Black finally had a reason to be pleased, and said, "Hopefully it creates momentum but we have to come out tomorrow again and play as consistent a game as we did today.”
Will Venable scored for the Brewers and tied the game to one at all in second inning. Ludwick then touched a 2-1 lead generating homer in the third. After two scoreless innings, the Braves’ Alex Gonzalez finally managed to tie the game at 2-2 followed by
a leading run by Derek Lowe in the same inning.
In the seventh inning, Moseley pitched loose again and gave a 3-3 tying RBI single to Nick Hundley.
The atmosphere then turned favourable for the pitchers and from both sides they tossed impressively. The Braves’ relievers Scott Linebrink, Jonny Venters and Cory Gearrin pitched one scoreless inning each. The closer Chris Martinez was impressive in his
first two innings, but was not lucky enough to pass through Ludwick’s strong swing in the thirteenth. Martinez gave two runs on one hit and allowed one walk for his second lost of the season.
Ludwick commented on his performance and said, "In most parks that's 20 rows deep. This park plays crazy at night. When I hit it, I did not honestly know if it would get out. I am just glad to win. Early this year we've had some tough losses, and hopefully
this turns it around."
The Padres’ relievers were phenomenal in their short spells. Chad Qualls, Mike Adams, Heath Bell, Luke Gregerson, Ernesto Frieri and closer Cory Luebke combined to give just four scoreless hits in seven innings.
