San Francisco 49ers Brandon Jacobs had a strong reason for leaving New York Giants – NFL News
Despite winning two Super Bowl rings with the New York Giants, running back Brandon Jacobs had a very strong reason to leave the defending Super Bowl champions this offseason and join San Francisco 49ers.
According to the New York Post, Jacobs had been planning to leave the Giants even before getting his second Super Bowl ring. The running back said:
“I had been mentally planning to make this move for two years now, so it didn’t surprise me that it happened. I thought it was going to happen last year, to be honest.”
Jacobs said that he was mentally disturbed while playing for Giants. He said:
“I was put in situations there where it stopped me from doing a lot. I was mentally disturbed there. My mind was in a bunch of other different places, worrying about things that were out of my control. I don’t have anything against them, but it was time
for a clean slate.”
Jacobs started his professional National Football League (NFL) career with the Giants, who had selected him in the fourth round of that year’s draft.
There is no denying that life was tough for Jacobs at Giants, but the team was also suffering because of his injuries. He had not been able to stay fit for a long period and he even had clashes with Giants head coach Tom Coughlin.
However, both parties parted ways on good terms (so it seems) and Jacobs also misses his former coach. He also did not rule out the possibility of playing for the Giants sometime in the future. He said:
“If I was welcomed back there in the future, I would go. But right now, I’m a 49er.”
49ers have not committed a long-term association to Jacobs. He has a one-year contract with not a very hefty payout. His future course will certainly depend on how he performs in the 2012 season. He could either get a contract extension from the 49ers after
the season or the team might part ways with the player.
It is too early to tell where Jacobs will be after the 2012 season and it seems that the player also realises that he faces a somewhat uncertain future and that is why he is keeping all the options open.
