Veteran linebacker Clark Haggans, who has recently joined the San Francisco 49ers, is trying to adjust into the new system by learning the playbook and knowing everyone around as the 49ers prepare to face Green Bay Packers in their regular season opener
on Sunday, September 09.
Haggans, 35, has spent 12 years playing in the National Football League (NFL) and his addition into the 49ers line-up adds to the strength of an already powerful defensive unit. According to the details present on the team’s website, Haggans said of joining
the 49ers:
“I am happy to be here. Right now I am just getting in the playbook, getting to know my teammates and my coaches. I am getting used to the workout and the routine.”
After starting his professional NFL career with Pittsburgh Steelers in 2000, Haggans continued to build on his performance while improve his game. In his fifth season, the Steelers gave him an opportunity to become their regular starter.
After playing eight seasons with Steelers, the linebacker joined Arizona Cardinals in 2008. He spent four seasons with the Cards and is now looking forward to having a good time with 49ers.
49ers won the National Football Conference (NFC) West division last season and they are aiming to repeat the heroics again. They are even aiming to get a shot at the Super Bowl this time, something they failed to do last year as New York Giants had defeated
them in the NFC Championship game.
With his experience, Haggans is expected to play an important role in the team’s overall progress. However, it will not be an easy task as the linebacker needs to get well acquainted with the playing conditions in San Francisco while he must also get grip
of the playbook as soon as possible.
He said:
“It will obviously be a challenge (to pick up the playbook by week one). The terminology is different, but a lot of the techniques are the same. Having been here since Sunday in the classroom with my coaches I am just trying to absorb as much as I can.”
Even if Haggans is unable to completely grasp the playbook, he will not be affected a lot as he as plenty of experience.
