San Francisco 49ers’ QB Alex Smith happy to train with Jim Harbaugh – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback, Alex Smith, has said that he is enjoying training with head coach, Jim Harbaugh, during the present offseason.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Smith is undergoing hard and competitive training sessions with the coaching staff and is satisfied with the detailed workout.
Smith likes the way he is being coached as Harbaugh focuses on even minor details that could impact the players in any way.
He said of training with Harbaugh:
“At this time of the year, we just come in and work, we get detailed and Coach Harbaugh is the most detailed quarterbacks coach I’ve been around, which I love. It’s great.”
Smith informed that the coaches are pointing out weaknesses in the technique and playing style of all the players and said that it was good to know the flaws.
The quarterback said:
“You don’t want to come out and go through the motions. You want to get something out of this. We’re so detailed on the fundamentals of the quarterback position and all of us getting better at our weaknesses, I love that, I think it’s great.”
Smith has been playing for the 49ers since starting his professional National Football League (NFL) career with them in 2005. His seven-year career with the team went through ups and downs and at times it was also believed that the team would release him.
However, the management continued showing confidence in him and Harbaugh who had joined the team last year, wanted Smith to be the starter for the 2011 season.
Smith performed remarkably well last year and led the team to winning the National Football Conference (NFC) West division.
Unlike last year, 49ers have four quarterbacks on their roster this time. Along with Smith, Colin Kaepernick, Josh Johnson and Scott Tolzien are training with the quarterbacks coach.
Smith does not see the presence of three more quarterbacks as a threat to his position in the team and instead thinks that they will add competition to the unit.
A couple of months, Smith also signed a three-year contract with the 49ers who are going to enter the 2012 season as one of the Super Bowl contenders.
