San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith’s sprained fingers “doing fine” – NFL News
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has said that his sprained finger is doing fine and that it is not going to affect his performance in Week 6 game against defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
Smith’s finger was hurt during Week 5 game against Buffalo Bills. The game was exceptional both for the quarterback and the team.
Smith recorded his season-best stats in the game, completing 18 out of 24 passes for 303 yards, while scoring three touchdowns. Apart from gaining over 300 yards in passing, the 49ers also rushed for 311 yards, setting up a National Football League (NFL)
record.
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh had earlier said that there was nothing to worry about as far as Smith’s injury was concerned.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Harbaugh said when asked about how Smith was doing:
“Good. Says he’s doing good and not something that’s a big deal, or to worry about.”
Smith has been playing exceptionally well since the last season, in which he led the team to its first playoff appearance after a very long time.
It was also Harbaugh’s first year as head coach and he seems to be combining well with the quarterback. So far in this season, Smith has maintained good rhythm and form, showing even better class than last season.
Before the last season, Smith had not been rated among the best quarterbacks, but the last and the current seasons have changed that perception.
When asked about what are the reasons behind Smith’s surge, Harbaugh refrained from giving proper answer and said:
“I can’t put that in the category of - we just don’t have any answers for you. More of our view on it is questions. Are we good enough to come out today and get the preparation that we need against a good Giants team? That discipline, our study habits. Focus
on those preparation items rather than provide the list, or answers. We just don’t have the answers. We’ve just got continual questions right now.”
Smith has the best passer rating in the league so far this season.
