San Francisco 49ers’ RB Brandon Jacobs training hard to get in shape
San Francisco 49ers’ running back, Brandon Jacobs, has said that he is training as hard as possible to get back in shape and be as quick and speedy on the field as possible.
Jacobs, who started his professional National Football League (NFL) career in 2005 with the New York Giants, won two Super Bowls with them.
He has recently joined the 49ers and wants to win the NFL title another time.
To do so, however, he needs to control his weight, which has increased over the past few years.
Jacobs is aware of the fact that he needs to reduce his body weight and that’s why he is training hard to get back in shape before the 2012 season kicks off.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Jacobs said:
"I'm training 10 times harder than I've ever trained. I'm trying to get my body back to where it used to be, get strength in my legs, because that was the weak point in me the last couple years."
Jacobs did not play as Giants’ regular starter during the past few years and was not able to register impressive records, though his performance remained commendable throughout.
He said of those years:
"My legs weren't as strong, my balance wasn't as good as it needed to be. I want to play down in the (2)50s for basically the first time in my career. I don't think it's far fetched."
He thinks that his performance will be improved if his weight is reduced. The player is of the view that his legs will not have to bear the burden of his heavy body in case of weight reduction and he will be able to move faster.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, he said:
“I think I could move faster, I could hit the hole harder and I could deliver a little bit more of a punch if I’m lighter versus being heavy.”
It is still not known if Jacobs will get more playing time in the upcoming season as 49ers already have a great running back in Frank Gore, but Jacobs still wants to be in shape so as to avail any opportunity he gets.
Jacobs’ level of commitment is certainly commendable as he also missed the ceremony in which the 2011 Super Bowl winners were awarded their rings. Jacobs was training with his new team and did not want anything to affect it.
