San Francisco 49ers’ Randy Moss impressive in his first official workout – NFL News
It looks like a one-year gap from the National Football League (NFL) has improved Randy Moss’ game-play further as the wide receiver performance during his first official workout for the team on Thursday, May 10, 2012, stunned nearly everyone.
Moss, who had announced retirement from the league after the 2010 season after playing for than a decade, took the retirement back recently and the 49ers gave the 35-year-old receiver a one-year deal.
Moss missed the team’s offseason voluntary workout but joined the team for the on-field coaching sessions later.
However, he was yet to step on the field and practise with other players.
On Thursday, Moss participated in the team’s drills and even caught throw of quarterback, Alex Smith, and backup quarterback, Colin Kaepernick.
In his NFL career, Moss has played for the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans.
When asked about how he felt while training with Moss, Smith was really impressed with the receiver. He was of the view that Ross is still fit and healthy and would prove to be beneficial for the team in the upcoming season.
Smith said:
"It's tough to tell that he missed a year of football. I certainly don't see any rust. He's running well, catching well. No surprise, he's a pro and already has a good understanding of the playbook."
Kaepernick was also impressed with the veteran’s performance and Moss’ presence in the squad seems to be a morale booster for the youngster.
Kaepernick said of having Moss in the squad:
"It was a little bit surreal at first. That's someone I grew up watching. He's a great guy in the locker room. He's out there having fun and working hard."
In his first six seasons as a pro, Moss registered more than 1,000 receiving in every season. In total, he has played 10 such seasons and the 49ers are expecting him to deliver his best shot this year.
In the last NFL season, 49ers lost the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game against the New York Giants after so well throughout the season.
They will enter the next season as one of the contenders for the Super Bowl title and the performance of players like Moss will be crucial to their success.
