San Francisco 49ers T Joe Staley feeling fine after concussion, wants to play against Seattle Seahawks
San Francisco 49ers tackle Joe Staley, who was sidelined from Week 6 game against New York Giants after suffering a concussion, has said that he is feeling fine and wants to play Week 7 game against Seattle Seahawks.
However, the team has not confirmed anything about the player’s participation against Seahawks.
Staley suffered a concussion in the third quarter against Giants. He was sidelined after the injury and was not allowed to return.
He visited a doctor the next day and was seemingly fine, but that does not guarantee his participation in Week 7 game. According to the details present on the team’s website, Staley said:
“We’re going through the process right now. It’s really out of my hands. It’s up to doctors and the training staff to come to the decision.”
49ers cannot give Staley clearance to play unless he is fully fit. The team has to follow the National Football League (NFL) protocols before stating the player’ status for Thursday’s game.
The tackle will have to get clearance from the team’s medical staff along with clearance from an independent neurologist to be able to play in the game.
Staley is desperate to take the field against Seahawks. He has asserted that his concussion was not serious and that he remembers everything from the game.
Just like every other team member, Staley is also disappointed after the loss against Giants, and wants to take his team back on winning ways. The player said of the short week and game against Seahawks:
“For this team right now, it couldn’t come soon enough. We have a bad taste in our mouth after our last game on Sunday. We’re really excited to play.”
In Staley’s absence, Alex Boone left his position at right guard and placed himself at left tackle. Boone’s place was then taken by Leonard Davis. If Staley does not get clearance to play against Seahawks, Boone might start at left tackle.
Staley believes that Boone and other players are capable of handling the job effectively. He said:
“Regardless of what happens, whoever comes in if I can’t go will do a great job. Boone has reps as a left tackle and has played very well there.”
