San Francisco 49ers’ WR A. J. Jenkins beginning to understand playbook – NFL News
These are still early days for San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver, A. J. Jenkins, in the National Football League (NFL) system, but the team’s first-round pick is determined to prove that he was worthy of being selected as 30th overall pick in
the 2012 draft as he begins understanding the team’s playbook.
First it was 49ers’ three-day rookie minicamp that gave him the taste of the NFL life and now the training with the veterans that is helping him understand the system in a better way.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Jenkins has begun understating the team’s offence and wants to get complete grip over the offensive scheme pretty soon.
The rookie said about general understating of the offence:
“It’s coming. I know there’s a lot more I need to learn but I’m getting the basics. My head is in the playbook every day, hopefully I’ll get it soon enough.”
In the rookie camp, Jenkins was only able to meet and train with the new players of the team, but the organised team activities (OTAs) have allowed him now to train with the veterans as well.
This week, Jenkins got an opportunity to spend time with veteran receiver, Randy Moss, who is making a comeback to the league after missing the last season.
Moss has played in the league for more than a decade and just being with him makes Jenkins ecstatic.
Jenkins said that Moss is really a helpful guy whose experience is vital for the players like him. While hoping to have a good, long-term relationship with Moss, Jenkins commented:
“I asked Moss a question today and he gave me everything, he broke it down. I was still kind of amazed that I was even talking to him. It’s cool. Hopefully I can develop a nice relationship with Moss down the road.”
When asked about how the rookies feel about the transformation from a college player to being a pro and how they handle criticism and tirade from coaches, he said:
“We keep our spirits up by cracking jokes and laughing, so it’s a good feel. We still have a long way to go though.”
