San Francisco 49ers’ WR Kyle Williams focusing on next season, ready to move on – NFL News
The dramatic heroics the San Francisco 49ers had displayed during the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season ended with the team’s loss against the New York Giants in the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game, but the team still managed
to extract many gains out of the season. For wide receiver, Kyle Williams, the case was different though.
Williams was responsible for two fumbled punt returns that eventually gave the Giants the opportunity to win the game.
Giants later won the Super Bowl XLVI and many still think that the title could have been 49ers’ but for Williams’ fumble.
Williams received severe criticism, even death threats, from the team’s dejected fans, but his teammates and the management stood with him.
According to Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee, Williams recently talked to media representatives for the first time after the championship game and said that he was focusing on the upcoming season.
Williams has not forgotten the loss, but he sees no point in regretting over the mistake. Instead, he wants to keep his focus on the next season so as not to repeat the mistake again.
According to Williams:
“It's not like you want to forget about something like that. You want to build off of that, learn from it, take it as a mistake and build off it, you know?”
He added:
“It was a tough time, obviously, for me and for the whole team. But the way these guys had my back, they continue to have my back. That, coupled with the work ethic, has just kind of been a good therapy for me. So I've just been going hard, and I'm ready
to go. I'm ready to go now.”
Williams asserted that he has been preparing for the next season since the last season ended and said that he is working hard during the present offseason to polish his skills.
Recently, 49ers’ general manager, Trent Baalke, also expressed confidence on Williams saying that he was ‘not down’ on the player.
Williams’ positive attitude has a lot to do with the support he has received from the organisation and his teammates and if he is able to use it as a motivation he might silence the critics in the upcoming season.
