San Francisco 49ers beat Arizona Cardinals 27-6

The San Francisco 49ers were in control of the game from the start to the finish after being shutout by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the previous week. The more accurate description of the game however would be that the Arizona Cardinals were never in control.
In the first quarter’s first offensive drive by the Cardinals, the ball was fumbled and recovered by the San Francisco 49ers. In the next play the 49ers scored their first touchdown. San Francisco’s quarterback Troy Smith threw a 38 yard touchdown pass to
Michael Crabtree. The 49ers got into the lead early on and never looked back.
Cardinals’ quarterback Derek Anderson made some big plays in the game but overall he was unimpressive. In the first quarter he threw a 43 yards pass to running back Wells, the only pass he received in the game. The Cardinals were able to convert that drive
only into a field goal.
San Francisco upped its lead to 11 in the first quarter with Anthony Dixon’s rushing touchdown. Minutes into the second quarter the 49ers scored their third touchdown of the game thanks to a spectacular play by wide receiver Ted Gin. The wide receiver’s
42 yards punt return put the 49ers on Arizona’s half of the field. In 4 plays, quarterback Smith took the 49ers into the red zone. From the 15 yard line, Brian Westbrook ran 7 yards first and then 8 yards right up the middle for touchdown. Westbrook proved
to be the top receiver in the game. He received 136 yards in 23 attempts.
The Cardinals were able to answer Westbrook’s touchdown with a field goal, their second of the game. Arizona wouldn’t score again. Neither was San Francisco able to score until late in the third quarter. Along with Westbrook, Sanfrancisco’s running backs
carried their drive to the end zone. Anthony Dixon rushed 6 yards in two plays followed by an incomplete pass by Smith on the 20 yard line. Without any more downs remaining, the 49ers attempted the field goal and it was good.
San Francisco’s defence created the 4th scoring opportunity for the team tonight. 49ers’ linebacker Takeo Spikes, intercepted Anderson near the end of the 3rd quarter. After the interception San Francisco’s offense pushed 42 yards to
get to the 8 yard line but couldn’t get a touchdown. 49ers attempted their second fourth field goal of the day and it was the second time the attempt had been successful.
The 4th quarter ended with 27-6 and San Francisco won the match to the sound of boos by Cardinals fans. The Cardinals have won no games since their bye week.
