San Francisco 49ers beat Miami Dolphins by 27-13 in Week 14 – NFL Recap
San Francisco 49ers ran to a victory, thanks to three rushing touchdowns in a 27-13 win over Miami Dolphins in Week 14 on Sunday, December 09, 2012, at Candlestick Park, San Francisco, California.
For Dolphins it was another disappointing defeat that looks to have sealed their fate for the postseason. The team is currently sitting at 12th position in the American Football Conference (AFC) playoff rankings with a 5-8 record.
Meanwhile, 49ers are comfortably placed at second position in the National Football Conference (NFC) after posting a 9-3-1 record.
It was another sparkling performance from quarterback Colin Kaepernick that led to 49ers getting a comeback win after getting a surprising defeat last week.
The quarterback also gave a strong response after struggling in Week 13. He completed 18 of 23 passes for 185 yards.
Kaepernick got his fourth start in a row despite quarterback Alex Smith being available for the game. He ran 50 yards to reach the end zone in the dying minutes of the game. Talking about Kaepernick’s performance, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said:
“Kaepernick did a great job of throwing the ball away... I thought he managed the game well. He did a good job. He made some big-time throws, ran the offense, did a good job of running the ball and his reads were good for the most part.”
49ers defence put up another superb performance as they kept Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill under control through most part of the game.
Linebacker Aldon Smith got two sacks in the game and broke the 49ers’ franchise record for most sacks in a season with a total of 19.5.
Dolphins were in the game most of the time, but did not have the depth of skills to go past the 49ers. During the postgame press conference, Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said:
"In the fourth quarter, we had some opportunities to put some more points on the board. We didn't. We were too generous, It's just a lack of playmaking at critical times. That's it."
For defence, linebacker Cameron Wake was the star of the show. He scored three sacks in the first half of the game to put up great pressure on Kaepernick.
Both offences faced a great deal of difficulty in pushing forward. Dolphins finally opened the score sheet with a field goal by Dan Carpenter.
However, 49ers soon got back with two field goals by David Akers to finish the first half 6-3.
Running back Frank Gore ran for a yard to reach the end zone and strengthen the lead to 10 points. Dolphins managed to score a field goal later in the third quarter to take the score to 6-13.
49ers got another rushing touchdown, thanks to a one-yard run by running back Anthony Dixon. This was followed by Tannehill scoring a touchdown for Dolphins. Kaepernick finally sealed the win for 49ers with a rushing touchdown as the game ended 27-13.
