San Francisco 49ers bring Perrish Cox for the next two years – NFL News
Cornerback, Perrish Cox, who was recently found not guilty of sexual assault charges by Colorado criminal court, seems to be enjoying a good fortune as he has now received a two-year contract from San Francisco 49ers.
49ers’ general manager, Trent Baalke, made the official announcement of Cox’s appointment on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.
In a statement, the general manager said:
“We are pleased to add Perrish to our team. As an organisation, from ownership on down, we have done our due diligence and are confident that Perrish will be a positive contributor to the 49ers, as well as our community.”
Cox started his professional National Football League (NFL) career in 2010 with Denver Broncos. However, he only played one season with the team and played 15 games while starting nine.
He recorded a total of 57 solo tackles, one interception and two forced fumbles.
In September 2010, Cox was accused of sexually assaulting a woman. He repeatedly denied the charges and was also put behind the bars for one day.
However, he was found not guilty earlier this month. He had earlier said that he would not return to Broncos and would look to join any other team after being cleared.
According to different reports, he was in contact with other teams as well, but eventually chose to join 49ers.
He was working out of late and is hoping to perform well with 49ers. He thanked the organisation for trusting his abilities and is determined to get a fresh start.
He said:
"I want to thank everybody for giving me the chance to actually express myself and go out and have dinner with the owner and the GM so they could figure out what kind of guy I am."
While discussing his plans for the next season, he said that he will take full pride in whatever role 49ers assign him. He also said that he can play as starter as well as a backup player.
He said:
"If I am (a starter), it'll be proven. But if not, I'll take the backup role, also.”
This is the second signing 49ers have made in two days. A day earlier, http://www.senore.com/San-Francisco-49ers-signed-Randy-Moss-for-the-next-season-NFL-News-a136199to veteran wide receiver, Randy Moss.
