San Francisco 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers up for salsa – NFL News
When San Francisco 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers displayed his dancing skills on the field last year while doing salsa, he intended to somewhat mock New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, who celebrates his touchdowns by doing salsa in end zone.
In the 2011 regular season, Giants and 49ers faced each other and the latter emerged victorious. Rogers did a salsa dance that irritated Cruz as well, but he could not do anything. However, he vowed to take revenge and he did get it when Giants defeated
49ers in National Football Conference (NFC) championship game.
Now after five weeks of the new season, both teams are going to face each other again. Rogers, who might have tried to mock Cruz last season, seems to have enjoyed salsa and is up for performing it again.
Rogers has said that he will celebrate his moves during the game against Giants by doing salsa. He said:
"I like the dance, actually. I really can't do it as good as him (Cruz), but if I make a play or get an interception on him in my mind, (I'll) just do his dance.”
According to the book recently marketed by Cruz, the Giants receiver did not like Rogers’ salsa. Cruz wrote in his book “Out Of The Blue”, via The Sacramento Bee:
"Then with his teammates cheering him on, he did a sarcastic salsa dance over me. The Candlestick Park crowd went ballistic, but I wasn't laughing. It was a sign of disrespect. Instead of getting up and retaliating, though, I sat and watched Rogers finish
his cheap Victor Cruz imitation. I promised to never forget it.”
Meanwhile, this matchup will also provide an opportunity for 49ers wide receiver Kyle Williams to seek redemption. It was Williams’ fumble that took the NFC championship game away from 49ers last season.
His failure infuriated the fans, some of whom even threatened to kill the player. That being an old story now, Williams has hoped to perform well this weekend to make up for the failures of last season.
It is certainly going to be an exciting matchup and as the game day comes closer it is expected that players from both teams might get involved in some trash-talk.
