San Francisco 49ers dominate Buffalo Bills 45-3 – NFL Recap
After whitewashing New York Jets a week earlier, San Francisco 49ers kept their thundering momentum going in Week 5 as they crushed Buffalo Bills, 45-3, on Sunday, October 07, 2012, at Candlestick Park.
The victory also saw 49ers registering their best game ever as far as yards gained are concerned. They finished the game collecting 621 yards, while quarterback Alex Smith also had his best stats of the season as he gained 303 yards and scored three touchdowns.
49ers were dominant right from the start and did not allow any chance for Bills to gain momentum. They are 4-1 after five games and are placed at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) West, tied with the division leader Arizona Cardinals as far
as number of wins and defeats is concerned.
Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 16 of his 26 passes for 126 yards and sent one interception. He said after the defeat:
"They flat-out dominated the game from end to end. We just got beat bad by a better team today. There was no fancy stuff. They are who they are and they just played better."
It was Bills’ second straight defeat. They are ranked third in American Football Conference (AFC) East, behind New England Patriots and Jets.
It is not unusual to see 49ers defence performing well, but the offence was superb in this game and somewhat stole the attention. 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said of his offence:
“I thought we executed extremely well. Our receivers were really getting open and doing a fine job of running strong, there were some fabulous catches made. They ran good routes and they were getting it going.”
49ers provided the first scoring move of the game when they got a field goal in the first quarter. Bills levelled the score in the second quarter by scoring a field goal, which eventually became their only scoring move of the game.
Soon after the score was levelled, Smith sent a 43-yard pass to Kyle Williams for a touchdown. The move was followed by another touchdown towards the end of the quarter when Smith sent a 28-yard pass to Michael Crabtree.
In the third quarter, Frank Gore, who rushed for a total of 106 yards in the game, got a touchdown after a one-yard run.
He said after the game:
“The O-line did a great job. I have to give all the credit to them. I just ran the ball, they did everything.”
Early in the final quarter, Smith sent a 10-yard touchdown pass to Mario Manningham. The lead was further increased when Colin Kaepernick rushed for 16 yards to secure another touchdown, while the final nail in the coffin was struck by Anthony Dixon’s three-yard
run for a touchdown.
49ers are now going to face New York Giants in Week 6 game, while Bills will take on Arizona Cardinals.
