San Francisco 49ers ease past Arizona Cardinals 23-7 in Week 11 – NFL Recap
It did not take much for San Francisco 49ers to win eighth game in a row as they overpowered Arizona Cardinals 23-7 at the Candlestick Park in the week 11 game of the National Football League current season on Sunday.
49ers offense moved whenever it got chance and their defensive wall proved to be too robust to break. They dominated the game almost completely and did not provide any breathing space to Cardinals.
In the first quarter, two field goals from David Akers, one from 22 yards and other from 43 yards, gave 49ers lead 6-0. Another field goal from the same kicker, this time in the second quarter and from 29 yards, secured the halftime
lead 9-0.
The third quarter of the game belonged to 49ers’ quarterback Alex Smith. He threw an eight-yard pass to wide receiver Kyle Williams who scored a touchdown and increased the lead to 16-0. The next receiver of Smith’s pass was tight
end Vernon Davis who caught the ball thrown from 18 yards, and managed a touchdown to end the third quarter at the score of 23-0.
Cardinals finally got something to cheer about in the final quarter, but the effort was too little and too late to affect the outcome of the game. Quarterback Richard Bartel threw a 23-yard pass to wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald
who scored the only goal for Cardinals and reduced the lead to 23-7, which proved to be the final score.
49ers are leading the National Football Conference West division and hold second position in the league ranking just behind Green Bay Packers that have won all the games this season. They are happy with their current streak, but,
at the same time, are hungry for more.
“We take pride in outworking people," 49ers’ safety Donte Whitner said. "We're happy about the win. But our long-term goals, we want to compete for a championship.”
Alex Smith shares the same views and is seeking perfection.
“You chase perfection like that, you're never going to be perfect but it doesn't change your mindset," he said.
Cardinals had their seventh defeat of the season. They have won only three games so far and are ranked third in the NFC West division. They ended their six-game losing streak to win two games, but fell short of getting the third
straight win.
"Their thing is keep the game close, don't give up no big touchdowns and then get three points and three points, maybe get a score.  And that's how they win the game,” Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett said about the loss.
