San Francisco 49ers extend offensive tackle Alex Boone’s contract by four years – NFL News
The management of San Francisco 49ers on Thursday extended the contract of offensive tackle Alex Boone by four years, according to the team’s official website. The contract extension runs through the 2015 season.
The 24-year-old tackle played college football for Ohio State before being selected by 49ers in the year 2009. 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke on Thursday appreciated Alex for his hard work and dedication and said that the management
is pleased to extend his contract.
“We are very pleased with the progress that Alex has made since joining the team in 2009,” he said. “He really is a great example of what hard work, dedication and focus can do to further a young player’s career. The 49ers are
very happy for Alex and look forward to him capitalising on this opportunity.”
Boone has played two seasons with the 49ers. Last year, he appeared in only one game. However, the coach played him in all the 12 games this season, but he is yet to get his first start.
According to different reports, Alex has signed $6 million dollar deal with the 49ers. He is expected to get $450,000 in the year 2012. The amount will increase in the year 2013, where he will get $540,000.
The figures will continue to increase with each passing year. In the year 2014, he is expected to receive $950,000. In the final year of the new contract, Alex will be paid $1.2 million. He reportedly received a signing bonus of
$1.7 million from the franchise.
It is also expected that a few other players will also get a contract-extension from the 49ers in the days to come. There are nine 49ers’ players who are in the final year of their contact. They include quarterback Alex Smith,
wide receivers Braylon Edwards, Ted Ginn Jr. and Joshua Morgan, linebacker Ahmad Brooks, guard Adam Snyder, cornerback Carlos Rogers and safeties Dashon Goldson and Madieu Williams.
49ers have secured a playoff-spot by getting their 10th win of the season after defeating St. Louis Rams last week. The victory also gave them the National Football Conference West title. In the week-14 game of the National
Football League current season, they will face Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
