San Francisco 49ers’ fans should sing team’s praises instead of cursing the players – NFL Special
Even in the hardest of the times, when the future looks bleak, the pain becomes intolerable or the misery surmounts the blessings, the strong and the inviolable resists the gloom and hopes for good days in the offing.
The same is the case with a few of the San Francisco 49ers’ players who believe that this difficult period too shall pass.
And that is what they should do. After an impressive season, crying over the last defeat or a missed opportunity is the virtue of failures, and the 49ers are not among them.
The 49ers came so close to achieving the long-sought glory that the fans even began deeming the team as a group of champions.
They had every right to do so, as the overall performance of the team cannot be neglected, but the reality stands – the 49ers lost against the New York Giants, 20-17, in the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game.
The 49ers also played against the Giants in the National Football League (NFL) regular season matchup and won it, but things have changed quite drastically since the meeting of these two teams around two months ago.
The Giants assumed the posture of a disciplined unit that went on to work on its flaws and had successfully overcome them before the teams met again.
Their passing and rushing game was splendid and it would not be wrong to say that the team that performed better on the big day got the victory.
“Life goes on,” defensive tackle, Justin Smith, said. “It’s not the end of the world. It’s hard to swallow, but they just beat us. They were better than us today and they deserve to go to the Super Bowl. That’s just the bottom line.”
On a flipside, many are still debating and would continue to do so whether it was Kyle Williams, who is responsible for the failure.
Williams gave away the ball in the overtime when he was hit by the Giants linebacker on a punt return. The fumble was capitalised by the Giants, and the rest is history.
Some of the emotional fans, out of frustration, even cursed Williams badly and prayed for his death following the failure, but why are they ignoring the fact that this is the team that took the franchise into the playoffs for the first time since 2002?
What are they overlooking the fact that the 49ers won 13 games in the regular season and topped the NFC West division?
It might be possible that Williams would have run forward to set up a game-winning drive for the 49ers, but wisdom calls for letting go what’s happened and learn from the mistakes.
Many of the 49ers players experienced the playoff euphoria for the first time in the National Football League (NFL) career, and the veterans believe that there is much more to come.
Instead of cursing the team or any particular player, the fans should praise the team and coach, Jim Harbaugh, who silenced all the critics and reached this far. Who knows the 49ers might receive the honour in the next season.
In the words of safety, Donte Whitner:
“It’s not the end of the world, but right now it feels like it. It’s going to take a little time to get over this, but we have a lot of guys that are going to return. A lot of players are in their prime and if we continue to go out and work and stay healthy,
God willing, hopefully we’ll be back in this situation next year.”
Something the fans should remember: When the going gets tough, the tough gets going!
